Things People Don’t Mention when Becoming a Pilot

We suppose that flying is something that many people say
they would like to be a pilot but when the facts are dished out many change
their minds and go back to the drawing board. If this is you think no further
about becoming a pilot as hard times, both financial and time consuming.

The cost is astronomical, exceeding the quarter of a million
rand mark and then sum for as little as 9 nine months tuition if done fulltime.

Once qualified as a commercial
pilot
the road isn’t over, one still has to do so much more. It’s called
hour building, this means volunteering, excepting work and very low pay and so
on until enough hours have been acquired where the aviation industry find you worthy.

Ok so it is a hard road but if this is a dream it’s worth
it. It’s up to you to go away and find out if you can put up with a lifestyle
like this for 1-5 years? Eventually the financial benefits will come as will a
career of notability.

The Cost of a Dream

So you’ve led in bed all night for the last few nights/years
dreaming of becoming a pilot and now you’ve decided to jump on the internet and
investigate the so called “price of freedom” compared to your everyday life.

It is true that flying is expensive, tuition and the daily
cost of living whilst studying. However depressing this sounds there are ways
around this, not so much around but ways to afford it.

The cost averages from R200-R450-000.
Don’t be scared by this as if you compare it to other forms of study it’s
relative. 3 years at a top SA university will run up a cost of at least R80-000
plus minus a year. Where the argument for aviation
training
rings home is the speed in which it can be completed, 9 months to
a year is what many schools say. After one year of studying students are able
to earn. Student loans are now included in most banks for this prestigious
route.

 It’s a fantastic
career choice that doesn’t come easy but once obtained its worth it.

Why SA?

South Africa is famous around the world for its stellar air schools located around the country
with many of major airlines selecting our schools over others for their up and
coming cadets. There are many reasons for this.

One reason is that we have severe wind and weather patterns
which grants the training pilot a wealth of experience, chucking the pilot in
at the deep end so to speak. However this is only done when the pilot is ready.
Winter see’s cloudless days follow cloudless days and thus allowing
un-interrupted days of training.

Another reason is our cost. We among some of the cheapest
schools in the world with training that isn’t hindered by the modest, in flight
training terms, price tag. R220 000
– R400 000
for fixed wing pilots licence is the average cost; if
residence is required an extra cost will be included. Many major banks now
included aviation training as a
student loan, finally, which means people who don’t have a quarter of a million
Rand can now reach this exclusive career.

Good luck, and always investigate.
